2nd Sunday of Ordinary Time 2025
Over the past weeks, Christ has been speaking to us, sharing His life, giving us instructions and guidance. His main purpose was to restore man back into the image and likeness of God, to be seen on earth. Everything was perfect in the beginning, until man disobeyed and sin entered. The image was now tainted. Christ was willing to become flesh to identify with man. The disciples had been with Christ in a couple of years, and He wanted to know what the people thought of Him, and if His ministry was being received by the people. But even the disciples did not fully understand the reality of Christ, although Peter acknowledged that He was the Son of the Living God. On the whole, they were wondering how He could heal the sick and raise the dead. Jesus, however, knew He was going to Jerusalem to fulfill His mission on earth. He spent His whole life preparing for this. His one purpose was to redeem the world. To restore mankind. Zechariah 10:6 “I will strengthen Judah and save the tribes of Joseph. I will restore them because I have compassion on them. They will be as though I had not rejected them, for I am the LORD their God and I will answer them.” Zechariah 14:3
Then the LORD will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle.
As young as aged 12, Christ had already been equipped with the knowledge of the things of God, and was even able to discuss these things with the Scribes in the Temple. 2nd Timothy 1: 8 “So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.” Salvation comes through Christ. He is the only source. Christianity does not mean reciting a creed, it goes deeper than that. Christ was often heard saying, “I must go about my Father’s house,” or “I must preach the Kingdom.” Christ made His will, God’s will. We should be building the kingdom each day, living a Christ-like life, helping others in need. We should be honest, trustworthy and be good witnesses.
Christ left a life of royalty to live a low life for others. He was willing to sacrifice everything to fulfill the will of the Father. Such tremendous love and commitment Christ has for us that “whoever lives this kind of life shall save it.” Our task is to be witnesses, to share the love of God to others. To let people know that God is involved in our lives. God is telling us today, “build the Kingdom.”
