Feast of the Epiphany 2026 – Abp. Hines
Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany. When we think of feasts, we correlate that to festivities, celebrations, abundance. God is like a feast. He is abundance. And yet, many times we feel that we are lacking. Society wants us to be dependent on them. But what God has blessed us with is that we should be like Him. Isaiah 60: 1-2
“Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the LORD will rise upon you, And His glory will appear upon you.”
We look at the world, and that’s what we think who we are. It should be that we listen to God instead because we are the light of the world. Our faith should be in what He has given to us. We are to be a people of faith. Isaiah 60:5 “Then you will see and be radiant, and your heart will thrill and rejoice; Because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you, the wealth of the nations will come to you.”
This was a foretelling of Christ’s birth and how there will be gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for Him. God plans ahead and He does this in detail. God Himself would give a signal, that He would send someone to make His will be known.
God protects us and guides us. He warns us of danger. He says, “My sheep know My Voice.” There is a need to condition our minds that God is abundance. Micah 5:2-3 “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will come forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His times of coming forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity. Therefore, He will give them up until the time When she who is in labor has given birth. Then the remainder of His kinsmen Will return to the sons of Israel.” Today, many, many Jews, wealthy ones from New York are already returning to Israel. What God says, He will do. Christ came to break our bondage. He will be our peace. Psalm 72:18-19 “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen.” Revelation 20:1-3 “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”
The magi took two years to travel on camels just to be able to look for the Christ Child Jesus so that they too could worship Him, and present to Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Wait on the Lord and He will fulfill His promises. We need to be patient. What is the mystery? The mystery is that we are one family. We will be one with the Jews, who is God’s original family. Hosea 11:1 “When Israel was a youth I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.”
We should be thankful for His creation. We should be thankful for the sun, which gives us warmth, which causes crops to grow, which gives us light. We should “feast” on Him, in His abundance. Trust Him for He is the God of life. There are two kingdoms, life and death. We need to choose life. Epiphany, God is with us.
