We Are His Watchmen

Genesis 32:3-8, 22-30
2 Timothy 3:14-4:5
Luke 18:1-8a

From the beginning of time, God had a plan. Everything had been set in order. He then created man to take charge of all that He had done. However, we see today very little responsibilities among men. The enemy has been trying his best to destroy man, taking away the image of God in us. God gave us responsibility. When it was destroyed through Adam’s sin, Christ came to restore it. But we still find ourselves lacking in so many things. Just take a look at the situation happening in our nation today, billions of pesos disappear from the coffers. The enemy has been deceiving us for a long-time and we don’t see ourselves progressing.

The Gospel today tells us of a poor widow who had a legal problem that needed to be addressed and resolved. She would not give up pleading her case before the judge. This is what God wants us to do. To not give up. God will not forsake us. He will not leave us. We are the ones leaving Him if we do not trust His ways. We see in the gospel at this time that a system was in operation in solving cases. There was the plaintiff, defendant, and the government official. There was a notorious judge who was governing at this time. When we stop for a moment to think of our spiritual life, are we diligent to keep firm our confidence in God’s promise? The widow here was a symbol of defenselessness, of poverty. But she was consistent in approaching the judge. She would not give up; she kept bothering the judge. Isaiah 62:6 “On your walls, Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who profess the LORD, take no rest for yourselves.” It is our responsibility as Christians to not give up. To not stop until we see the victory. As watchmen, we are to guard, pray and remind God. Matthew 18:19 “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.”

John 17:25 “Righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.”
When we pray. we should go beyond just praying, we need to literally bombard the gates of heaven to really get the answers to our prayers. The enemy tries to put hindrances in our lives by letting us occupy our time and priorities on other things. We need to be firm and diligent.

Isaiah 59:16 “He saw that there was no one And was amazed that there was not one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, And His righteousness upheld Him.” We are to be His watchmen. We are to bring to His throne the things that are needed. We are to arm ourselves with the tools of God, to keep praying until we get the answers. The enemy will put doubts in our minds, but we need to trust in what the Scriptures say. Isaiah 49:14 “But Zion said, “The LORD has abandoned me, And the Lord has forgotten me.” Isaiah 49:13 “Shout for joy, you Heavens! And rejoice, you earth! Break forth into joyful shouting, mountains! For the LORD has comforted His people and will have compassion on His afflicted.” Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. “Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all.” Mark 11:24 “Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted to you.”

God will fulfill His promises. Do not give up. We need to establish our faith and confidence in Him. God is on our side. Like the persistent widow, we must not give up. When things seem impossible, that’s where God does the best.
