Humility in Royalty

Hebrews 13:1-8
Luke 14:1, 7-14
12th Sunday of Ordinary Time 2025 Homily – Abp.Hines
As God’s family, we are a blessed people. We literally lack in nothing. From the very beginning we are who we are, being blessed and empowered. We have been instructed to be fruitful and to multiply. There should be progress in our lives. God took away our iniquities and sufferings on the Cross. He then gave us holiness and righteousness which is His gift to us. He intended us to be like Him. The true character of a father is to provide for his children. He’s always there for us. In times when we think we are inadequate or poor, these thoughts did not come from God. He does things in perfection. Scriptures tell us His favors and blessings are upon His children. Adam walked with God in perfection. He never had any problem, nor did he ever encounter any confrontation. But when sin entered due to his disobedience, Satan brought upon man all the problems in the world. Hebrews 13:6 “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” God is there to protect us and provide for us. Have we lost sight of these things? We are children and sons of the Living God. He has given everything to us pertaining to life an godliness. We need to believe this and receive it. We’ve got to see ourselves as royalty. And we are to proclaim the excellencies of God. He will never forsake us.
The enemy has somehow planted in our minds the opposite of who we are, or who we should be. In knowing who we are as royalty, we are not to be arrogant but use the knowledge for God’s glory. For those who have all the riches in the world, we are not to keep them to ourselves but rather be helping and reaching out to those in distress. Our ministry is to restore people and not to condemn them. Like God who cares for us that He not only sent His Son to restore us but to give us royalty. Jesus’ message to us is to be humble. If we are humble, then He would exalt us.
Psalm 113: “Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord. Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people. He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.” This is our responsibility- to take what He has given as royalty, to restore those who have fallen. Proverbs 25: 6-8 “Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,” than for him to humiliate you before his nobles. What you have seen with your eyes do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame?”
God reaches down to us in our failures and defeat, and He lifts us up. When we have a reception, we should invite the lowly or the ones who have no means to repay us. Scriptures tell us not to condemn or judge those who make mistakes. We do not wait for them to come to us, but we should go to them and restore them. God shows us the example of humility and the hope we have in Him. Christ restored us. He loved us so much that He would send the Holy Spirit to teach us all things. God is the source of everything. We must remember that we are to be like Him.
