1st Diocesan Youth Camp: Going Against the Tide of Contemporary Culture

The FUSION Youth of Redeemer Church of St. Peter (RCSP) hosted the 1st Diocesan Youth Camp of Catholic Congregation of St. John Preparer of the Way at Tanay Adventure Camp on May 22-24, 2017. The theme this year was “Going Against the Tide of Contemporary Culture” attended by young people from Tanay, Sampaloc, Morong, Greenhills, Baguio, Montalban and Caloocan. Youth participants garbed in their youth camp shirts, were grouped into five houses: House of David (Courage), House of Joseph (Integrity), House of Solomon (Wisdom), House of Barnabas (Peace), and House of Abraham (Selflesness). Members of each house would be doing every activity together for the next few days, and their initial task was designing their house banner.

Various team building exercises and rope courses faced the participants, but each house welcomed the challenge and came up with their own strategies. Campers enjoyed the series of activities particularly the difficult mud slide.

After engaging the physical part of the campers, it was time to feed the spiritual aspect as different sessions were conducted by Fr. Domingo Rombaoa Jr., Fr. Larry Agbuya, Fr. Claro Navalta and Mrs. Kit Garcia.

During the evening, a lighter side of camp life was highlighted. Each house prepared a talent showcase to entertain everyone, followed by the presentation of wacky awards by Ms. Gisela Amonoy and Dr. Diane Rombaoa. The night culminated in a praise celebration, which roused the youth to sing and dance for the Lord with all their might.

Campers held a bonfire later that night, while having fellowship with each other. On the last morning, a mass was presided by Fr. Julian Tienzo to start the day right, while Bp. Salvador Tarraya gave the final challenge to exhort the campers and motivate the Christian youth to “go against the tide of contemporary culture” After the awesome experience of the 1st Diocesan Youth Camp, which was a resounding success, everyone was gleefully looking forward to next year’s FUSION Youth Camp! – Martha Dennisse Virrey
